I make these for the school fete. I also did a heap at Christmas to put in the cards, and have a few on hand as a "Thank - yous" and Birthday Gifts, Mothers Day etc. They sell like crazy at charity fundraisers. I enjoy making them in different colours, and mount them on a piece of card with some words scribbled on. ala Happy Reading, Thinking of you etc.. Depends how soppy I am feeling .

While I am happy for you to make these for personal use, gifts and charity fundraising, please do not sell to make a personal profit.

Do have fun tho, as they are quick and easy once you get the hang of the fans. As a gift they are always appreciated.

Please respect my copyright. I post this as I love to share, but it is bad karma to copy paste, sell, or reproduce this pattern.

  4. I'm working on this now and am truly loving it. So far I'm only on fan 4 :) This is my first bookmark thread crochet project. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Not sure how well it will work out but I'm thinking of adapting the pattern to a barrette since its so pretty. I think if i just make it as is and cover the metal part with the same yarn that i use to crochet it, I could attach to barrate and still have it lacey looking.

  41. I was thrilled to find this pattern. I am interested in continuous lace. As opposed to the kind you chain 74 stitches and you are limited to that length. I first saw this picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/sunshinescreations/2606769901/in/photostream/
and after a bit of investigating came across these instructions. Are you one and the same person? I posted the continuous lace pattern, giving credit to Sunshine and a link to her blog, then I posted your pattern, giving credit and a link to your blog. I hope this is alright. It said I had to ask permission. I hope that showing the lace to explain what I am trying to do is not infringing on anyone's toes.

    Thanks

  70. Two suggestions for variations on this beatiful pattern:
    1. change the first fan into a full "wheel" by expanding to 24 dc on the first round (sl to join, turn), 24 dc,ch on the second round (then sl to join, turn) and then sc,2ch,sc in 21 ch sp before ch 5 and continue with original pattern on round 3
    2. instead of stopping short of the last 3 ch sp on round 3, continue sc,2ch,sc in all ch sp, and then dbl-tr (4 loops on hook) 3 ch sp back to create the base for the next fan, then continue as before.
    Enjoy!
And thanks for the beatiful pattern, I love it

  71. I have seen this lovely bookmark pattern made into a scarf on Ravelry. It's gorgeous! But I think I'm doing something wrong! I seem okay up until the picot round....it just seems that when I make the picots, they don't look like picot-y enough....I get lost from this row onwards...can anyone give me suggestions as to how I can get this row and all the subsequent rows right? Thanks so much!

  75. Hi There,

I absolutely love this fan bookmark and tried it over the weekend gone by.
Unfortunately, I am unable to get the beginnings of the second fan right. I kept getting stuck at "then 5ch, skip 3 spaces and work 1sc into 2nd ch of first dc post of row 2. TURN. (This completes fan 1)"
Would it possible for you to give me a picture of how to get this out of my way? I am a beginner and am slow in figuring my way around...

Thanks so much for this pattern! These are lovely bookmarks. I'm thinking of using worsted weight yarn and making a scarf from this pattern as it is so unique but not difficult to make. I've crocheted 5 bookmarks so far and plan to share them with all my relatives. I can't stop!

I love this pattern! I extended it to make it into a belt, and now all of my friends want one. I've had to buy different colors to satisfy all of there desires. I'm going to try to make this with two colors, binding off and switching every other fan. Don't know if it will work, but it's worth a shot. Thank you so much for posting this, and happy crocheting!

I love making these. They are super easy and look like they took way more time to make then they actually did. I've got it down to 45 mintues a bookmarker. A prefect gift for a teacher or book lover. Thank you so much. I love making thses while I'm waiting for an appointment or a sports practice to finish up.

  104. I have made these before and love them! I lost the pattern and just found it again. I love this pattern and am even thinking about just making one fan for a quickie bookmark. I am thinking of making 20 more more to give away at church on Sunday and don't think I can do it with the whole pattern. Thanks for the great pattern!!!

I adore this pattern! It translates really well into lace if you just continue making the fans. I actually made two strips as a wedding gift for a friend who participates in a historical reenactment group and she adored them!
